There are some great used car bargains to be found at used car auctions, providing you follow some straightforward guidelines.

• Be sure to examine the cars of interest to you before the used car auction starts.
  
  
• Never start the bidding at a used car auction, hang back and wait till bidding slows.
  
  
• Look around for the car dealers holding their used car trade books. Follow their lead. If they show interest in a used car then it is likely to be worth bidding on.

• At used car auctions, never bid on a vehicle that nobody else is bidding on or if bidding is slow and unusually low. There’s always a good reason.
